Being born and raised in the Chicago area has given Larry Vesely the opportunity to experience a wide array of musical styles and tastes; positive as well as negative. As a budding keyboardist, people would say it's only natural to expand his sights by picking up the accordion and in the tradition of his Slavic ancestors become a "Larry Welk Protégé". Luckily, Larry resisted.
It was at the age of fourteen that Larry realized there was more to piano than playing Bach and Bacherach. He attended two concerts that set him on a musical course that's been his main thrust these last several years - Jimmy Smith with his Hammond B3 organ, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young with their harmony-laden vocals.
Musical styles change like the weather, and, likewise, Larry has found himself expanding to include Funk, R&B, Folk, Blues and (since coming to Southern Indiana 15 years ago) assorted Country styles.
"What I like about Impasse is the wide variety of musical tastes we sample," says Vesely, "and musically, I couldn't ask for a more well-rounded, versatile group of musicians to play with. After all, I've been with this group for almost ten years - that's saying something!"
